    • About First Baptist Church in New Haven, CT

First Baptist Church (FBC) in New Haven, Connecticut is a downtown church where people travel from a range of distances into the city. We are a medium sized American Baptist congregation with approximately 150 members. Our typical attendance for Sunday worship averages 85. The church is located in a residential section of New Haven. Many in our congregation are affiliated with Yale University. Others live in the surrounding suburbs of Hamden, East Haven, West Haven, Milford and Cheshire. About half of the members are under 55 and half are over 55. We are comprised of retirees and young professionals as well as students. We are a diverse congregation and our population is comprised of mixed ages, ethnic and educational backgrounds and professions.

Carrying forward the tradition of its inter-racial founding, FBC is today a living testimony to the Apostle Paul’s claim that “we are all one in Christ.” Recent members have hailed from Poland, Liberia, Taiwan, Romania, Chile, Jamaica, Haiti, Myanmar (Burma), Guiana, Greece, Belarus, Congo and throughout the United States, proclaiming together the glory of God and the transforming, reconciling power of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

We invite you to join us on our journey of faith as we seek to:
      • Worship in the beauty of God
      • Serve in the call of Christ
      • Grow in the love of God's Spirit
      • Learn in the wonder of God's Holy Word

We are a congregation affiliated with the American Baptist Churches of Connecticut and of the USA. We support the ministries of the Interfaith Cooperative Ministries and Christian Community Action Agency in New Haven.
